After School Learning Center

Our facility houses a library/learning center. This provides students with a quiet, comfortable space where they can meet with tutors who help with the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic as well as facilitate completion of homework assignments. Adult mentors are available to listen to and counsel students regarding life’s challenges. Here, Archie Moore’s “CONCEPT” plays a huge role and helps students become outstanding citizens and role models.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 3PM–5PM

Boxing Gym

The concepts of boxing emphasizes self-defense alongside self esteem. Furthermore, the boxer maintains focus, determination, and integrity as they work with their coaches and their peers. The boxing gym and Mongoose boxing team are available for students who are in good standing at their respective schools. We have outstanding, friendly coaches who are trained to teach the basic boxing skills. Depending on the student’s ability and desire, our coaches are capable of training our athletes to the professional level.

Bridging the Gap

During school breaks, we offer students in grades 5-11 our full day “Bridging the Gap” enrichment program. Historically, we have offered academic classes in the morning, emphasizing reading, math, and computer skills. In the afternoon, we have offered lessons in drama, art, chess, nutrition, and African drumming. Students also have participated in community cleanup efforts. We have offered many youth field trips as well, including:

  • Luncheon at the San Diego Yacht Club and a harbor cruise with Dennis Connor on the Stars and Stripes
  • Sea World Day Trips
  • Padre games
  • A trip to the San Diego Superior Court and participation in a mock trial
  • A dinner theater trip to the Old Globe
  • Research training program visit at the UCSD School of Medicine

The school break session have created tremendous positive changes and growth in the youth who attend. This program allows them to maintain their academic levels while offering them enrichment opportunities. We have seen the benefits translated into better academic performance and increased self-esteem students during the school year. Please contact celina@abcyouthfoundation.org for enrollment inquiries.
